Characteristics: The first settlers arrived in the area in ancient times. Written records first mention the village as Zeredahel in 1323. It was a significant market village as early as soon after the Magyar Conquest.
At the end of the 16th century, the village and the Pauline monastery were devastated by and went into the hands of the Turks, and was repopulated only 90 years later. After centuries of growth, the population began to decrease in 1960, to slightly grow again after 1990.
The unemployment rate is 3.6%. Throughout its history, Magyarszerdahely has been an agricultural village. A number of people work in nearby Nagykanizsa. The municipality plan to delineate new lots and to develop public services.
